Expertise is an indication of how often you have indulged in a particular socializing event.
Your first target is to achieve Bronze level. Then some of the prerequisites, costs, and rewards may increase. Then you progress up through Silver, Gold, and Platinum to Diamond.
As you reach each level in a particular event, you get a small bonus, generally a skill point and something else.
